2016 X-Sightings: Call for submissions

Due to popular demand and to alleviate stress from those working hard on the submissions, WE ARE EXTENDING THE DEADLINE FROM SEPTEMBER 19TH to SEPTEMBER 22ND 11:59 PM!!!

X-Sightings, a showcase of XR (VR/AR/MR/360) content that’s part of the annual NWFF - Local Sightings Film Festival, is meant to promote the exploration of new methods in storytelling, to broaden diversity in the cinematic industry, and to have fun within the community!

X-Sightings has opened its doors for acceptance of film submissions for the following categories: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Experimental. We're on the lookout for deeply compelling stories and visual art from Pacific Northwest. We want to see what is changing the landscape of visual storytelling/cinema and proves to be groundbreaking content in the VR community.

We want to see what creativity and influence you can put out into the world using Virtual Reality as a medium. X-Sightings seeks excellent new Cinematic XR experiences made in the Pacific Northwest for the 19th annual Local Sightings Film Festival, screening September 24th – September 25th, 2016. Virtual Reality renaissance is here, but there are no set standard operating procedures in this unexplored frontier. Be a part of finding out how Virtual Reality is used to create visual and audio narratives!

Eligible Cinematic experiences for submission to X-sighting 2016 are those finished within the last 18 months. The creator(s) must be based in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and the Yukon Territories).

Submissions

X-Sighting requires that all films be submitted via Google Drive. Access must remain active and accessible through October 31, 2016. If you can't submit your film via Google Drive, email us directly at SIXR@Studivo.com.

Note: You must clearly mark the submissions that are works-in-progress by indicating "WIP" or Rough Cut with information on what's missing (e.g., temp sound, missing animation, etc.), either indicated in the film cut itself or within the copy display in the download link.

MULTIPLE ENTRIES
Each film must be individually submitted and accompanied by its own completed online entry form; please do not send links to multiple film entries in your online entry form.

NWFF - Local Sightings


Local Sightings is the Northwest’s premiere showcase of new films, putting homegrown talent in front of Seattle audiences and connecting PNW artists in a ten day-long celebration of cinema from the region. Produced by Northwest Film Forum, this annual fall film festival features new films, jury prizes, killer parties and welcomes national industry scouts looking for strong new work. This is the 19th annual Local Sightings Film Festival, screening September 22 - October 1, 2016.

Disclosure: We will be documenting this event through photography/film and use the content to promote future cinematic VR events. If we're about to take a photo of you and you want to opt out, please let us know! We will respect your privacy and accommodate your needs!

Rules of conduct: - Treat shooting locations and event spaces with the utmost respect. - Aside from personal challenges, we will all be moving, cleaning, and helping each other. - Respect each other!!! (If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, reach out to an organizer. We care.) - We strive to create a safe environment, but we are not responsible for your personal belongings.

What is XR?
XR (experimental reality) is an umbrella term for virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and experimental mediums.

Will there be food?
Yes! We will provide snacks. Alternatively, there are some restaurants nearby.

Parking:
The venue is surrounded by free street parking. Pay attention to the signs of where you park.

What is Northwest VR community?
Members of Northwest VR Community self organized building a flourishing VR ecosystem that support each other and define it organically. We are leading the VR renaissance, and we're not only riding the wave of change but also becoming the wave maker. There is one rule here: be awesome to each other!

This event is part of ongoing process leading toward SIXR (Simulated Immersive Experimental Realities) Cinematic VR Festival next year. This festival will feature curated contents from other parts of the world as well as locally.
